Paperwork is all taken care of, so we went to IKEA ;)

So the paperwork is finally all taken care off. …well, mostly anyway. We paid for the land, it is now in our name even according to the city and all that. Yet it is still not measured. The city is taking a pretty long time measuring it, but oh well, we’re not in a hurry. We know it will be around 453m2, plus/minus one or two. So we’ll either have to pay some more or get some money back. It’ll be literally a difference of a square meter of two, it can not be like 10 😉

So while this is all working out our way we started preparing for everything. This last week we getting rid of unneeded stuff in our basement and bedroom. Everything we did not want to take to the new house because we didn’t even use it in the last 5 years since we moved here, either got sold or donated or thrown out. The girls kindergarten was donating toys to poor kids in Rumania so it was a good time to do this now. The donation box was overflowing with toys by the time we were done 😉 All in all we got rid of 4 or 5 car loads total. The basement is not completely organized, all in nice, labeled boxes. We even went through all the seasonal decoration boxes and only kept what we wanted to take with to the new house. Our basement doesn’t even have half the stuff in it now. I am pretty impressed and I feel so cleaned up 😉

Then today we thought it would be a good idea to go to IKEA and get some stuff we needed. While we were there we actually agreed on and picked out a kitchen. YAY!
A kitchen from IKEA???? – I can hear a lot of people thinking just that, but the price is amazing, I would pay more then double at our local furniture store and you can not really see that it is an IKEA kitchen. They started this whole new series of kitchens a couple of weeks ago and they are pretty amazing. And even if you could see it, I honestly don’t care. We all like it, and that’s all that matters. IKEA kitchen or not.

Since most of the furniture in our house will be white, so is the kitchen. We think white is timeless and you can always place different colored accents all around the house that are easily replaced. Right now I am in love with the whole white/turquoise theme going on everywhere so our kitchen/living room area will be mainly in those two colors. Furniture is all white, and then some walls, pillows, carpets, plates, glasses, etc. will have the turquoise accents. Once we get tired of turquoise, that stuff is easily replaced by a different color. Easier anyways then getting a new kitchen 😉

So the kitchen is high gloss white, with no cupboards, just drawers (with a build in light! HA! and they are all silenced – no more of those banging drawers shut – haha!), an induction stove, build in microwave and a kitchen island with 3 chairs for the kids to sit on (or guests if they are nice 😉 ). The kitchen we picked is not exactly like the one they had put up at the store. For example non of our drawers will have handles, you simply push at whatever you want to open and it just pops open. We also don’t want all the hanging cupboards to be white. Some will have frosted glass accents.
We even picked out plates – all turquoise – to go with the white kitchen 🙂 Glasses are going to be picked out soon.  The wall behind the sink we are not sure about yet, we might either put up some frosted glass (they had this really cool one that you could even write on) or some turquoise tiles.
The appointment to plan the kitchen is in September, then some smart interior designer will tell us the smartest way to organize and design our kitchen. That should be fun.

Why are we already doing this now I hear you ask?
Because we were both talking the other night and trying to figure out how to design the kitchen in the room we were going to have for it. Then we realized that was a stupid way to do it. What if the room ends up being 5cm to short to fit another drawer in? So we realized it would be so much smarter to get our dream kitchen put together first, then tell the architect of our house to build a room this kitchen will fit in. So that’s how we’re going to do it.

Here’s some pictures I asked Chris to take of the kitchen. Sadly – since we didn’t know we were picking out a kitchen today – they are cell phone pictures. Therefore the quality is horrible, but better than nothing. Chris forgot to take a picture of the actual kitchen as a whole but I will try to remember to bring the camera when we go to design it.
I am a little overwhelmed with all the storage room. Right now we have a super tiny kitchen and actually have some of our pots and Tupperware etc. out in a cupboard in the hallway. Seems like I won’t have that problem anymore in the future. 😉

Oh and we also found a double sink for our master bathroom, even though we are not sure about that one yet since our house company might make us a better offer for a different one. This one would also be in high gloss white though and has cute little dividers for jewelery, towels, and other bathroom utensils in each drawer.

I am excited people 🙂 This is getting more and more real every day. I’m loving it 🙂
