Foundation, Day 1. (Bodenplatte)

Yesterday (March 7th 2016) we finally got our foundation.
The kids loved watching the huge machines, and it really is fun to see how it all comes together. It does finally look like it might turn into a house at one point.
I am just about to head back to the construction site for day 2 right now, so I don’t have any time to write more.
Here’s a gallery of day 1 pictures. Enjoy. (Notice most of them are straight out of the camera, as I didn’t have time to go through and edit all the pictures. I took almost 400 😉 ).

Baustrom

Yesterday, March 5th 2016, we got “Baustrom” (electricity for the construction site).
Not much else to say about it 🙂 But here’s a picture:

If the weather doesn’t mess with us again, we will get our foundation done tomorrow (March 7th 2016). So fingers crossed that the snow we got again last night will melt away before tomorrow morning. 🙂

Snow, foundation & “Feinabsteckung”

Today (Wednesday, March 3rd) we were supposed to get our foundation.
I say “were”, because when we looked out of our window yesterday morning we saw this:

My plan was to call ProHaus/Gussek and ask them if the snow would delay anything. They beat me to it by calling before I could and said “the workers have just been out there to start your foundation today (it was March 2nd!) because they got done earlier somewhere else, but because of the snow they had to stop”.
So, if it weren’t for the snow, we would have missed our foundation being put down, because they didn’t feel like calling us. After all they have 6(!) other people who are building with them in our area right now. So they said it was impossible to call all of them. It’s 6 people.

So in a way, I think I am thankful for the snow cause this way we didn’t miss anything. Chris had a nice, little talk with them when he got home and we now get email updates on times and dates. Let’s hope it will stay this way.

I still went out yesterday and sure enough the workers had just dropped all the steel for the foundation and just left it there.
Oh, and the kids had some fun building a snowman, a snow kid and a snow animal (they couldn’t agree on weather it was a dog, a cat or a panda). It was quite fun because our land is extremely smooth right now, it was easy to roll the snow and  built.

When we were done I got everyone in the car and drove past the land to show them their snowmen. They had all fallen over and were completely destroyed 🙁 So we just built them all again. The nice thing about that was, while we got to our next appointment too late, one of our new neighbors stopped by and brought us some cake. So the Save-The-Snowman-Mission was worth it.

The next day – so today (March 3rd), – it was time for the “Feinabsteckung”. It looked like the snow had never even been there in the first place. All we noticed where some new green sticks (that kind of stuff makes me so very glad that it’s just around 800 Euros. – 800 Euros for some green sticks….). Not sure what that’s for quite yet, but we’ll see.

New appointments are:
– Foundation: Monday, March 7th 2016 (instead of Wednesday, March 3rd)
– House: Wednesday, March 16th 2016 (instead of Monday, March 7th)

Let’s hope for some better weather this time.
