Finally on google

Our house can finally be seen on google maps. If you check one of the older posts I already did a comparing picture of the house that was here before and then the empty field. Now you can finally see our house!
In a way I am glad (silver lining here 😉 ) we didn’t do the yard yet because this way on the next google image you will be able to see the yard all done and we will have all the different steps as satellite pictures 🙂

Christmas Time

And before we knew it Christmas rolled around.
For the first time ever in our very own house.
We had such a nice advent time – St. Nick came and filled the kids boots – and also an amazing Christmas and New Years. Since we couldn’t really do an overly awesome Christmas at the apartment (due to the move) last time we really went all out for Christmas this time around. Our tree might have gotten just a little bit to big 😉

Halloween

First Halloween at our house!
We also tried out our fireplace inside as it was getting colder outside.

Yardwork

So it’s been a while since we moved in and we were trying to start on the yard before winter. Sadly all the companies we talked to are busy till well into the next year. So because we have to wait for quite a while in order to get some actual grass etc out there, Chris started at least cleaning it up a little. The both of us were also pretty annoyed with the dog constantly running around outside as there was no fence yet at all. But it didn’t make sense to put up our actual fence yet, because we figured yard workers would just destroy it. So we bought this super cheap and super ugly neon green fence on amazon (it was just the cheapest thing they had) and put it up all around our land. It looks hideous but does what it’s supposed to do which is keeping the kids and the dog from running onto the street.
I also took some time to turn the little nook under the stairs into a reading nook for the kids and they absolutely love it and sit and read there all the time. I even made the turquoise box/bench they can sit on myself 🙂 It’s a white IKEA box that I painted and taped over with turquoise chevron (I stole the idea from this side: http://elizabethjoandesigns.com/ikea-apa-storage-makeover/ and it turned out so amazing that I highly recommend everyone to try it out. I will for sure be making another one).

Housewarming party!

It was about time, but we finally had our housewarming party. Two actually. One with friends and one with family. We thought it was going to be easier that way as all of our family has to travel quite a ways to get to our house and that way we’d have more time to actually talk to them and catch up. Our theme was – of course – a German/American party. So I dressed german, Chris dressed american and the kids did a little of both. It was crazy hot outside so after just a little while they switched back to t-shirt and jeans 😉 The buffet was also german and american themed food and a lot of fun to make and eat. It was fun to celebrate with everyone!

Lake

In on of the first posts on here after we bought land, I mentioned that we had a lake just across the street. It’s like a private lake, you can’t just walk in, you have to be a member.
We have been enjoying it every single day as soon as the sun was out. I even started picking up the kids from school and letting them do some of there homework (like reading) there so they could enjoy the outdoors. We all love living so close to it. We literally walk across the street in our swimsuits and a towel. It feels like we are on vacation 🙂

Enjoying the “backyard” in summer

Our first summer at are new house is a lot of fun! We are spending the days around the outside fireplace or at the lake across the street. Chris and I and the kids are just having the best time. Then, to top it all of, a very nice lady from the neighborhood came over telling us her children had outgrown their trampoline and if we were interested in it. She said she had seen the kids around and would love to give it to us for free. Of course the kids were thrilled and got straight to work putting it up in the yard with Chris. Ever since it’s there I don’t think I’ve seen much of them 🙂
