Water

This last week stuff was happening again. We now have running water, a water softening system, the heater is ready to get started, and some other small things were taken care of. Since it’s getting cold, the kids also thought of the birds and hung up some bird food. It’s been a long weekend and I am rather tired, so I will let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy!

Rain gutters are here and we are finally done with the horrible yellow plastic things 😉
When I went to the house today neither me nor the kids noticed (actually they might have been there yesterday 😉 ), when Chris showed up later he didn’t notice either. But when we finally did, it was a huge difference to the yellow stuff 😉

Some more pictures of the stairs, now completely done (just still wrapped in protective material till the last worker is gone and the move is done). Still impressed they did this in less then 24h. Not bad at all. It’s such an amazing feeling to finally NOT have to climb a ladder anymore. Plus the whole house looks more “done” than it ever did before 😉

So the stairs were already almost done when I got to the house this morning around 9.30am. The only thing still missing is the railing at the very top. I have to say I am very impressed. I can already see the kids reading nook and can’t wait to decorate it 🙂

Stairs!
Stairs! Such a short little word, and yet it means so much! Endless days, weeks and even month we had to use a ladder in order to get to our first floor. Which I admit would have been a heck of a lot easier if I wouldn’t hate climbing ladders and if we wouldn’t have had to drag 3 kids up and down each time. And now there they are! The stairs! OK, well at least they are started 🙂 Workers showed up this afternoon and said they would be done by tomorrow morning. I will make sure to go there right away to check if they are. Here’s some first pictures:

Also, since we still have to open all the windows and doors twice a day to let the humidity from the screed out, I thought I’d show you some of the pictures. The first walk

Today Gussek told us we should open the windows in the afternoon to let out all the humidity stuck in the house from the screed. Once I opened our front door it really was like a sauna in there. Just not as warm and cozy, but more like a very cold steam bath. Very uncomfortable to say the least. The water was already dripping off the window handles and was covering all the windows. The walls felt wet as well, but everyone claims that’s normal 😉 It felt really cool to walk on our actual floor, everything seems to be “normal” sized now. I can even reach all the windows 🙂
Our “homework” now is to open all the windows and doors every morning and every night to let all the humidity out until the screed is dry which may take up to several weeks.

Estrich / Screed

Yesterday (October 13th 2016) we finally got the screed. Considering how long we waited for this, it really was extra special. The only problem we ran into was that they showed up a day early and didn’t have a ladder. So I took the kids to the construction site before school and preschool and rang at all the neighbors. Luckily one of them was home and I could borrow a ladder. I am still amazed by the fact that Gussek/ProHaus won’t take the workers that they – for reasons unknown – didn’t put temporary stairs in our house and that they also seem incapable to just giving us a quick call and letting us know they will show up a day early. Oh well, it is what it is and it will finally be over soon. The fact that we now have a real floor is still pretty amazing. Can’t wait till we’re allowed to walk on it 🙂 I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy.
